The Final game of season saw Janneys go all season without dropping a point, 18 wins from 18 games is some acheivement. But they were made to work hard for there 18th straight league win by Trinity after a rip roaring game. Having learnt from the previous meeting, Janneys set about Trinity with some fast flowing football but could not find away through a strong Trinity defence. The woodwork did however save Trinity twice in the first 20 minutes, before they settled into their stride to cause Janneys some problems. Firstly the returning Jack Haughey had a great chance to put Trinity in the lead after a good first touch put him clear of the defence, but the resulting left foot effort was rather poor. Chris Harper was next to try his luck, his long range effort though was off target and came to nothing. As an entertaining half drew to a close Janneys surprised Trinity by taking a 39th minute lead. A poor clearance by Chris Glass let in the Janneys forwards but the goalbound shot was blocked, but the rebound fell invitingly for the Janneys forward who tucked in from 6 yards out - 0-1. A minute later it was nearly 2 but an excellent save by Glyn Sparks kept the ball out. Trinity then mounted strong pressure with Phil Brumby and Jason Harper both going close. In the final minute of the first half, a strong Jason Harper left wing run saw him cut through the Janneys defence and his low cross was perfect for Phil Brumby to slide in at the far post for a deserved equaliser.
HT 1-1.
Trinity started the second half as the first had finished with both J.Harper and Brumby going close in the first two minutes. Another run down the wing and cross by J.Harper cause havoc in the defence and only for a great challenge from a Janneys defender, Brumby would of surely made it 2-1 to Trinity. On the hour and probably against the run of play Janneys retook the lead, a long far post cross deceived the Trinity defence and a Janneys forward thumped the ball home. Another good save from Sparks prevented a 3rd before Trinity came again. A series of long throws from Graham Dixon caused panic in the Janneys defence only for J.Harper to blaze over. As Trinity continued to push forward Janneys took advantage of this to score twice in the last 10mins. The first from a corner and the second following a good move out of defence. This game completed the League season for both clubs, with Janneys champions and looking forward to their rearranged cup final, while Trinity can reflect on a disappointing season and start to rebuild in the summer months.
