Trinitys League Cup Hopes Demolished...
On a wintery Sunday morning this Ireson Cup game eventually beat the weather at the third attempt. Trinity probably wish that the snow had claimed the match for a third time as they were a shadow of the team that had played so well during the previous two months. The tone was set virtually from the kick off as DSV went straight through the Trinity defence forcing the now regular goalkeeper Graham Dixon into an excellent save. Worse was to follow as Trinitys Chris Short was penalised for hand ball two minutes later. Dixon claiming another penalty save as the ball hit a post and was safely cleared. Trinity replied with their first attack through Phil Brumby who set up David Barnes but his effort was wide of the goal. DSV finally took the lead on 12 minutes as Trinitys defence was again absent leaving Dixon with no chance of saving a low shot. DSV had strong claims for another penalty on 20 minutes which the Ref turned down, but only 2 minutes later it was 2-0 with a similar goal to their first. With 10mins of the first half remaining a cracking 25yard effort from Brumby hit the DSV post. Straight away Dixon was again called into action with another good save. As Trinity were hoping to reach half time without further damage DSV had other ideas and on the stroke of half time a crisp shot found the top corner to make it 3-0 at the break. Trinity improved in the second half but the game was out of reach on 70 mins when DSV scored their 4th and final goal. Trinity were denied a consolation when the DSV keeper again saved well from Brumby, while at the other end a couple of late controversial decisions by the Ref saw a DSV "Goal" disallowed as Short lay injured and another effort disallowed for offside. DSV now play Baysgarth Old Boys in round 2.
